Mutthi Annaj Daan

This simple and highly fruitful concept of Mutthi Annaj Daan (M.A.D) first came to a group of enthusiastic friends who wanted to make a difference for the underprivileged. With basic maths and other related technicalities, MAD was chalked up as an effective plan of action. For MAD, all one has to do is put one Mutthi (handful) Rice and one Mutthi Daal in two plastic jars over the course of a month and that respective contribution is checked, packed and distributed to the people in need. However, careful monitoring is implemented to make sure that the correct MAD process is being practised. Institutes that take up responsibility of distributing the collected grains are thoroughly screened along with their accounting books, records of the donor and the recipients. MAD being tied up with education, only those continuing with their education are eligible to benefit with grain.

MAD got the proverbial boost in May 2014 when the Lions Club of Sion made a huge contribution of supporting 40 street children’s families and in September 2014 when the NSS unit of Smt. MMP Shah College made their contribution towards 50 girls who came from impoverished area like Dharavi, Sion and Antop Hill.

In 2015, 125 students were benefitted and as of now in 2016-17 MAD continues to support 250 students of our college with 17,500 kg of grains each month and aspires to support over 300 families in the coming years.
